What is an INDOOR GARDEN PARTY ?
It is a band.
An event.
A celebration!.
First brought to life in 2009 on a rainy night in a tent outside a London pub owned by legendary talk show host Michael Parkinson, the Indoor Garden Party is the music and live performance vehicle of Academy Award winner Russell Crowe.
Described last year by UK press after his performance at Glastonbury 2024 as "every inch the rock star" and "the perfect frontman", Crowe's ease with audiences and his ability to connect drives every show to a foot-stomping crescendo.
When asked what the audience should expect, Crowe replies enigmatically,"stories, songs, and surprises". Because of his intense work schedule on his day job, carving time out for music takes a good deal of planning. Having enjoyed huge tours in both 2023 and 2024 playing a bunch of shows at home in Australia, but also touring to Italy, France, Malta, Czech Republic, Ireland, UK and USA, the audience for Indoor Garden Party continues to grow.
2025 has just one show, December 20th at the Enmore theatre in Sydney.
One of the traditions of IGP shows is the eclectic guests that get up and perform with the band, and this show will be no exception.
From the USA, indie rock superstar in the making, BRAKE, whose pop driven rock songs flash around social media sites like TikTok, is on the bill. His track "Cigarettes and Black Lipstick Stains" has 4M listens on Spotify alone.
Golden Guitar legend Troy Cassar-Daley, queen of soul Marcia Hines, and Ireland's Lorraine O'Reilly will be guests on the night, and the show will open with Danielle Spencer performing new material including her recent "Regenerate" single.
Though Crowe has been releasing music since 1982, Indoor Garden Party are only two albums into their career, 2017's The Musical and last year's album release "Prose and Cons". Earlier this year, Crowe released a duet with Italian legend Zucchero of the Eddie Vedder song "Just Breathe" and performed two concerts with him at Rome's Circo Massimo.
Crowe and the band have been stacking up performances at legendary venues of late. Whether it's selling out the Gaiety theatre in Dublin on a wet Monday, or the Colosseum in Rome, La Cigale in Paris, the ancient amphitheatre in Pompeii, or 12,000 people crammed into Piazza del Campo in Siena, the shows have been epic. In the US, the band has played historic rock rooms like The Whiskey a Go-Go in Los Angeles and Tipitina's in New Orleans.
Coming off the back of last year's tour that covered 6 countries and 60,000km, there were initially big plans for shows in 2025. However, the year has turned monumental in Crowe's day job. By the time the December 20 show rolls around, Crowe will have completed 6 feature films in 12 months, something he has never done before, and the titles are already generating buzz and high anticipation.
Upcoming films include "Nuremberg" with Rami Malek, Michael Shannon & Leo Woodall (Worldwide release November 7th), The Australian production "Beast in Me" with Dan McPherson and Amy Shark in her feature film debut, "Bear Country" with Luke Evans and Teresa Palmer, "Billion Dollar Spy" with Harry Lawtey, "UNABOMB" with Jacob Tremblay, "The Weight" with Ethan Hawke, and the hotly awaited "Highlander" remake with Henry Cavill.
Says Crowe, "I'm really looking forward to this concert. It has been a little frustrating having to put some music things aside for the day job as the year has gone on, but you won't hear me complaining. In my profession, too much work is a bonus.
For the band, this gig will be like a celebration. A heavy work year behind us, one big blow out to finish the year will be so much fun. It'll be like the Christmas show you go to when you don't really want to go to a Christmas show. It's not official, but I'm pretty sure we will have a 'no reindeer' policy on the night."
